Here is another vehicle wrap I did just last week for Algoa FM the Eastern Cape's leading radio broadcasters. What a mission it was what a mission. Note all digital vinyl was not applied the pussy way of using soapy water. Vinyl used: Avery Super Cast
Thanx Beverly ,The vinyl we used on this van is a special vehicle wrapping vinyl it has tiny pores which allows the the vinyl to breath and release all bubbles which makes life so much simpler but it is shit expensive but I have done many other vehicles with standard vinyl's and believe you me pricking all the bubbles and trimming takes more time than actually applying. Bubbles aren't so much a problem it's creases that are a main concern in this type of work when you get creases you are basically screwed and have to reprint and apply.
Thanks for taking me through the process...I've seen it done on TV, but I can imagine If you don't have the expensive vinyl, IT would be a nightmare...ouch about the creases, I would be so frustrated having to do it all over again if that happened!
It all start with design once the artwork is sorted it's a matter of scaling the graphics to fit the specs of the vehicle. Printing and the prep-ping of the vinyl is a bitch. Applying the different vinyl pieces is the tricky part you need atleast 1 person to help with pulling the backing paper off and to hold the vinyl while you lay it against the vehicle with a scrapper. Then finally it's just a matter of using a heat gun to bend the vinyl into all the curves and then to trim all the windows and rough edges with graphic cutting blade. This is the type of thing I do on a daily basis and all I can say is it kills my back.
Wow, that sounds like an insane amount of work! It takes a lot of talent to be able to do something like that. Ugh, i'm sorry about your back that really sucks. I know my back aches from just hunching over while drawing for hours. I couldn't imagine doing the kind of stuff you do. Great work though!
I'm sure most artists would be able to do this type of work all you need you need is alot of patience, a very steady hand and a bit of practice with laying smaller pieces of vinyl. I learnt how to do this by watching other people doing it and just decided to give it a shot and discovered I was pretty damn good at it. Most of us as artist are perfectionists and that's why I think we're better at it.
That is really cool. And yeah, we are perfectionists. I always tell myself... oh just one more hour.... XD pfft. Like I actually finish when I say I'm going to finish. I always find something else to add.
Yeah I know the feeling once your in the zone it's hard to get out and once your out it's hard to get back in. Thanx for taking the time to comment I appreciate that
